AMC is an American cable and satellite television channel that is owned by AMC Networks and was launched on October 1, 1984. Mostly, the network airs theatrically released films, with a limited amount of original programming. Initially, AMC stood for American Movie Classics. However, the full name was de-emphasized in 2002 due to a major shift in programming. While movies remain an integral part of AMC's scheduled programming, the network has garnered attention in recent years for its widely successful original series, such as The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad.
The cable channel is now home to Dark Winds, a noir thriller based on the Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman. On July 9, 2021, AMC announced that it had greenlit the series.[1]
